OM MEG

ABOUT ME

Full name: Elin Hannah Helland
Born: 1970
Location: Klepp, Rogaland, Norway
Atelie: Klepp

My works of art are characterized by the present and the past. For the most part, my work reflects both past and present and the minimalist wild and beautiful coastal landscape where I grew up, and today live. The rough and harsh coastal landscape, its light and colors in duality and contrasts with yet a soft horizon, has always had - and still has, a great impact on me.

When I work on canvas, I like to use different materials and painting techniques. My reflections are told through my art - and as a mirror it reflects my inner life. The visual expression is often recognized through the choice of materials and technique in combination of delicate, light or very dark colors. This creates excitement and drama, while the composition creates balance. The results are calm, yet vibrant, aesthetic and emotional expressions.

My years of study of TAO and the theory of Yin and Yang play an important part in my journey. Something that is clearly reflected in my work. Wabi-sabi philosophy and aesthetics, has its roots in the Tao and is often characterized as being able to see - and appreciate the beautiful in asymmetrical, "unfinished" and moderated expressions. The philosophical goal of achieving balance is my guiding light in my creative process.
